Last Monday was our annual social visit to the lovely home and property of Dr Dick and Liz Wilson. It was easy to have a fun night while surrounded by a bounteous and plentiful vineyard, beautiful gardens and fun company with great food cooked by the team who put it all together.
Sharon Moreton and Stephen Blacketer toast our hospitable and generous hosts,
Liz (L) and PDG Dick Wilson (R)
Our very great thanks to Dr Dick and Liz Wilson, Greg and Marcella Russell as well as David and Shelley Hogan who worked hard on the planning and logistics. There were many more helpers who helped make the evening go smoothly. Appreciation also to John Osborne, Neil Wickens, and to all of those who cooked and served food.
It was great to see a happy crowd gathered together enjoying each other’s company. The photographs tell their own story. It was especially great to see Mary and David Wing there as well as having Andrew Cass back on deck!
The only thing missing was the bonfire (which last year attracted a friendly visit from the CFS) because the Fire Ban began a few days prior!
The "A" team! The "B" team!
Who doesn't like their picture taken? A happy man!
There is much happening at this time of the year as the Festive Season approaches.
There was a planning meeting this week to put in place arrangements for a float in the Christmas Pageant to showcase Rotary. Thank you to Andrew and Annette Cass, and to Malcolm and Jane Horton who met with me on Friday afternoon to put together some ideas for a great float with the theme ‘Back to Nature.’ Neil Wickens has already responded by wrapping 20 “fake” presents.
There will be a separate email being circulated in the next day or so relating to what we need. Please respond as soon as you can.
Last year we had the District Governor’s car in the procession promoting Rotary and this year, again, DG Kim Klar's Rotary SUV will have pride of place, pulling our float.
For those who are unaware, the Stirling Christmas Pageant began over 25 years ago by my co-commentator David Evans, who was at the time the President of the Apex Club of Stirling. After the Apex Club handed in its Charter, the reins for the staging of the event were handed over to the Hut Community Centre who still are doing a wonderful job. The format has, by necessity, changed a lot over the years including the time of day and day of week.
This year a new Sunday time of 4pm has been set. It would be lovely to see even more than usual of our Rotarians there to support the event. Set aside time on Sunday 1st December at 4pm. The procession will be over by about 5.30 and the food van will be serving until about 7pm. Please use this opportunity to help promote our club.
One of our two newest Rotarians is going to be telling us about herself on Monday evening. Come along and support our next Secretary, Michelle Lesiw who has already been working very enthusiastically in our club at a number of events.
The new Interact Club at Heathfield High School will be celebrating the occasion of its Charter being signed and accepted. Any member of our club is welcome to attend at HHS on Monday 9th December at 10.30 am to 11.15am. Please let me know (0418 845 119) if you wish to attend to come and see the wonderful calibre of students the club has attracted and help them celebrate.
See you all on Monday evening!
Yours in Rotary
Susanne Marie President
You're all invited!
A big shout out to Colin Fraser and Robert Koehne who both put in a heroic effort on Friday and Saturday to support Dan and Shelterbox at the wildly successful Alliance Francaise French Market in Unley. A prime location, beautiful weather and an ever smiling team proved a winning formula!
