Greetings to you all from Melbourne! Yes, another quick trip here to attend an intensive three-day work-related workshop at the Convention Centre after a very busy week in Adelaide. I am staying with my delightful niece Ky and her partner Mal who are highly talented musicians. Fun to be in their household in St Kilda, a two-minute walk from the beach and close to Luna Park. Alas, I have not been to either yet!
There is lots of good news this week, but the best news is that Andrew Cass came though the surgery successfully and is now ready to take on the next challenge. I know everybody joins me in wishing him well!
My week began in Stirling with a visit to the birthday party lunch for the Stirling Ladies Probus Club at the RSL Club room. This is one of three Probus Clubs that RC of Stirling sponsored.
Our meeting on Monday, 28th, was well attended by members of our club as well as Liz Wilson and Shelley Hogan. Dr Scott Brumby was our guest speaker, giving us an update on all that you need to know about arthritis. He is one of the many specialists who provide an excellent service to the Stirling community. Although a lower limb orthopaedic surgeon, he explained surgery is almost the last option considered in current, best practice arthritis management!

The AGM was quickly held and ran smoothly and most Board positions were filled
Congratulations to Michelle Lesiw, our new Secretary, Pauline Annear, continues as Treasurer and Community Service Director, John Osborne, re-elected Club Director, Ken Patterson, in the role of International and Vocational Director, Mark Ramsey, Youth Service(temporary) Director and myself, as Immediate Past President.
We still need to appoint a President. Please give some thought to stepping up. This is a truly rewarding job which is vital for a club to survive.
Thank you to Grant and all who worked in the catering caravan at the Callington Show last Sunday. From all reports it was highly successful and enjoyed by all participants. We made about $900 and the food was of a high standard. It takes a great team to make all of these events happen.
I am sorry I am unable to attend the Uraidla show this Sunday 3rd November. I am sure plenty have now offered to fill the last few spots on the gates. I look forward to hearing all about it.
There will be no club meeting on Monday evening following the Uraidla Show. However, each director will be holding their Committee meeting at a time and place to be advised to you by your Director.
On Tuesday evening I attended the awards presentation night for Heathfield High School held at the Norwood Town Hall. It was great to see and hear how highly regarded our relationship is with the school. We have been giving the money for the Special Achievement awards for the top student in Year 11 and Year 12 for over 20 years, a tradition they highly value.
These are two of the top awards presented and we were praised for our great relationship with the school.
Because of our relationship with the school, the Rotary Club of Stirling was one of three sponsors of the school whose logos were proudly displayed on screen at the beginning of the evening. .
Jayne Fulbrook, who was instrumental in helping us develop the Interact Club at HHS, thanked Rotary for our ongoing sponsorship. Let us see it continue.
Meanwhile, Greg Russell and his organising committee are making great progress in planning for the Small Acreage Field Days in April. He reports that he had a very positive meeting with the Echunga Oval Committee and a marketing and staffing plan is being prepared.
This two day event will be one of the biggest undertakings the club has taken on so please help when called upon!
I trust you all have a wonderful weekend. Thank you to all our wonderful members and families welcoming people to the Uraidla Show on Sunday.
See you next week.
Yours in Rotary

Dear Rotary Friends
As you know, I’m passionate about ShelterBox and raising funds and awareness for disaster relief.
Photographer, ShelterBox Response Team member and Shelterbox Australia CEO, Mike Greenslade is publishing a 200-page photo book, illustrating the resilience of those affected by disaster and the determination of those that assist in their recovery. The book shows the triumph of the human spirit in adversity.
ShelterBox would love it if all funds raised from sales of the book could go to disaster relief, that’s why they’ve launched a crowdfunding campaign to cover the $20,000 productions costs.
There are ‘perks’ available for donors who support this campaign.
