I find it hard to believe that a week has gone by since our last newsletter and five weeks since Pauline and Ken went off on their travels. They are due back early next week and I can very happily relinquish Treasurer duties back to Pauline. The blossoms are almost gone from their garden and the leaves are beginning to enhance all the trees.
Exciting news! We have a year10 student from Heathfield High School accepted for the Health of the River Forum being held at Calperum in Renmark. Congratulations to Ava Roach for succeeding. We are sponsoring her attendance. Thank you A/ Director Mark Ramsey for coordinating for this.
We have had a very social calendar in recent times. Following on from our visit with the Blakiston Club at the Pulpit Cellars, a group of sixteen of us went to Restaurant Tranquilo last Friday night as a pre-dinner meal for the play ‘Celebration’ at the Stirling Community Theatre which nineteen of us attended. I have to say that more than half were from Rotary Club of Mount Barker.
Shiralee Judge, Past President, (3rd from L) and Mt Barker members
Past President Shiralee Judge and I each rallied troops to attend as we both wanted our clubs to support Past Assistant Governor Penni Hamilton-Smith who is now an active member of the RC of Mount Barker.
Andrew and Annette Cass enjoyed Shiralee Judge IP President, Mt Barker and
the show with Liz Wilson, Susanne Marie, President, Stirling
just back from New Zealand congratulate Penni who shone in "Celebration"
We had excellentand delicious meals at Tranquilo with a choice of A La Carte or Mexican on Friday evenings. We then walked to the theatre in good time for the show which we enjoyed and particularly ‘our’ Penni who shone in her role.
I am enjoying the fact that the clubs in our area are forging stronger bonds. To me that is important. We are all Rotarians and the more we support each other and work together the better.
This past Tuesday we had a great gathering at American Bar and Grill in Mt Barker. This is owned by Grant’s son Simon. Rotary Clubs of Blakiston and Mount Barker both had a good number of people who came to join us making a total of 40 attendees.
Once more it was a partners’ night and many attended with their Rotarians. It was great to see Lynda Walsh and Socorro Wickens came even though both their partners were away.
Simon and staff treated us to a delicious selection of tasting platters to give an idea of what they serve and generously included a glass of wine for each person. For those able to stay, there were two cakes to enjoy at the conclusion. It was yet another fun occasion. Thank you to all who are entering in to the spirit of doing a few new and different things and having a couple of changes of scenery.
