What a wild and woolly day and night we had! On Thursday afternoon I was picking up 3 grandchildren from school in the midst of it all. It was chaotic at pick up at Stirling East primary school. It was great to go inside the house to a warm fire and dry clothes to change into.
Our meeting Monday night was such a great night. So much happening and a very full programme. It was great to see so many there.
I was very happy to induct Michelle Lesiw
and
Malcolm Horton
into our club as full members.
Malcolm has been appointed to the Community Service Committee and Michelle to the Youth and Education Service Committee. Michelle’s mentor is Pauline Annear and Malcolm’s is Robert Koehne. Thank you to Robert and Pauline for taking on the role. Please everyone, make sure to make them feel welcome in our club.
Our guest speaker was one of our newest members by a few weeks, Andrew Cass.
Andrew was ably introduced by his friend, past president Greg Russell. His wife Annette was a welcome guest.
We were fascinated and delighted by Andrew’s wonderful photos and descriptions depicting his life in farming from Childhood through to his retirement and move to Crafers West a few years ago. Andrew’s father bought a farm south of Loxton in 1951 and he lived from early childhood in a strong farming community.
We were regaled with wonderful tales of growing up on a farm and Andrew’s growth in his farming career. We were fascinated by the history depicted in the photographs and to see a pictorial history of farming presented. The changes in farming methods over those years were also fascinating. See also Andrew’s follow up email on Wednesday for video of weed spot spraying. Thank you, Andrew!
The menu for our dinner at Heathfield High School next Monday looks great. We can expect another great evening. Please remember that it is BYO drinks for this event due to the available liquor licensing at the High School. I look forward to seeing you all there. I am sure Pauline will give extra details in her reminder on the weekend.
There is an icy chill in the air at Summertown as I just went for a walk outside. Brrr. Please stay safe, warm and dry and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday at Heathfield High School.
Yours in Rotary
