We had committee meetings two weeks ago (3rd August). Judging by the general level of noise in the room, these were very dynamic and it seems that a lot of ideas are being generated in order to keep our club fruitful during these difficult times. I am hoping to put together a general picture of where we are going and present it to you shortly.
Last Monday we were royally entertained at the Heathfield High School where the hospitality students, as usual, put on a splendid menu. I was pleased to be able to make a small donation on behalf of our club which they will put toward a needed item of kitchen apparatus.
We also heard from the school principal Roy Page and Ross, the deputy principal who brought us up to date on the school activities and, in particular, the impressive plans for further expansion and development of the facilities.
Nick Ditter introduced Jayne who, among other things, is coordinating the activities of our Interact group there.
All-in-all, a very enjoyable evening.
Pauline has now finalized the budget for the coming year and this will be discussed at next week’s Board meeting. As you can imagine, current restrictions are making the raising of funds very difficult. To this end, we shall prioritize our spending and it is my intention to place various projects on a time-line so that we only commit to expenditure on projects when we are absolutely sure of the income to cover them (e.g. Sculpture Exhibition and SAFD).
While on the subject of (lack of) income, Pauline and her Community Committee have put together some ideas for community projects that involve very little expenditure (Trees for life, Bushfire gardens revival, Breadtags for wheelchairs, sewing masks). She has circulated these suggestions via a separate e-mail and I would urge you to participate wherever you can.
The Zone 8 Conference (Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands) will be held on September 19th and 20th. There is no charge to register to view this very special, virtual event. Click here to view the program for the 19th and here for the 20th. Click here to register for a link and password to join in online.
Even better, Dick and Liz Wilson invite all to viewing the event on the big screen at their home AND are throwing in a BBQ lunch to boot! Please confirm with Dick if you would like to attend with other club members.
Finally some great news; Rotary International will have its first ever female president in 2022/23. She is Jennifer E Jones from Ontario, Canada.
