District Governor's Visit

DG David and Lyn Jones and Area Governor Shiralee Judge were special guests of the Rotary Club of Stirling on 14 September. David talked about Rotary International World President Holger Knaack's Theme of Rotary Opens Opportunities locally and internationally.

The District now has 85 clubs and takes in all of SA, and parts of Victoria, NSW and NT with a total of 2152 members.

In 2021 Rotary in Australia will be celebrating its first 100 years in Australia, starting with the Rotary Club of Melbourne.

Lyn Jones presented on the Australian Rotary Health Foundation's project on Mental Health

It was especially great to also welcome to the meeting, Lisa Hanson, a 2018 Indigenous Health Scholarship winner, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Stirling.

Area Governor Shiralee Judge took the occasion to present to Past President Susanne Marie and to the club, the Rotary Citation Gold for the club's achievements in 2019-20. Well done, all!

Shed Cleanup and Inventory

A HUGE thank you to John Osborne, Greg Russell, Dan Edmonds and Don Reid who made a sterling effort to clean up and re-arrange all the Rotary equipment in the shed.  A very productive Saturday morning!

Save your Bread Tags!

A reminder from Pauline to save your bread tags and bring them to any Rotary meeting.  The campaign to recycle them is ongoing.

Check out this bowl, just one of the the great recycled products made from humble bread tags. When in Robe, drop in to see the entire range and learn about what is involved in the transmutation process!

For Those Anxious to Return to the Cinema!

Don't miss the Rotary Club of Stirling's private screening of a wonderful new comedy drama starring two of our most iconic and talented actors.

Please support our Movie Night on Friday, 23 October 2020 as we try to replenish depleted funds due to COVID restrictions on fundraising events.  Click on the image below to view the trailer.

Friday October 23 at Wallis Cinemas, Mt Barker.

Sam Neill and Michael Caton (Last Cab to Darwin) lead this Australian comedy drama about feuding WA sheep-farming brothers forced to band together when a higher power threatens their prized family animals.

Tickets are priced at $22 which includes the movie, a drink and either Fruchocs or popcorn, three raffle tickets and a small amount on top so we can make a bit of profit. Pauline, as Community Director has put this terrific night together and she will provide more information to all shortly.  Well done, Pauline!

This is an especially important activity for us right now as a fund raising initiative.  Please tell your famiy and friends about it.  So how many others can you get to come along?

Meeting News

A reminder that the annual dinner at the Stirling Hospital is on Monday evening and that there is no meeting on October 5th as it is a Public Holiday.

Friday, 10 October is World Mental Health Day which we will observe at our annual "Hat Day" 12 October when we Lift the Lid on mental health.

This is a Partners' Night so let Pauline know if you will have guests. We have a great speaker lined up (Chris Savill of RU OK and Alpha Six, his own support program for military personnel experiencing trauma.

The Board asks all Directors to organise their Committee meetings in the week BEFORE 12 October. Dan is happy to arrange for individual Zoom meetings if requested.

COVID Vaccine Bottling

Volunteers required for wine bottling on Sunday, 25 October and for Stage 3 human trials of the COVID vaccine developed right here in South Australia!  You may sign up for the vaccine trial yourself, but, in the current crisis you should also sign up family and friends for the trial as supply will be strictly limited to 52 dozen cases.

Zone 8 Conference

Twenty five members and partners attended the Rotary International Zone 8 Conference last weekend for a group viewing hosted by PDG Dick and Liz Wilson.  Many others watched from home. The program ran for 3 hours over 2 days and the general consensus was an excellent Conference with world class speakers.

...and a good time was had by all!

Past RI President from Australia Ian Riseley and Past RI Director Stuart Heal from Central Otago both made valuable contributions to Rotary moving forward in these COVID times.

Dick and Liz, you are unbelievably, generous hosts!

For those who missed all or part of the proceedings,  the whole program is now available on Zone 8's YouTube channel.  Click here to view all the presentations.

The Four Way Test
Of all the things we think, say and do

Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Please support the Friends of Rotary the way they support us!
