Greetings to you all from Aldgate via a 2000km journey to Edenhope, Melbourne and Mildura!!
Life stepped up a pace or six after I drove from Melbourne at 6am Tuesday to arrive in Mildura mid afternoon. Conference chair Penni Hamilton-Smith arranged a very full programmes of meetings and visits for the six of us from the conference committee over 4 days. All is well under way for a great conference next year. It is the last as District 9520 and I would love to see a good turn out from our club.
We checked out venues including the MAC (Mildura Arts Centre), social venues, speakers, sponsors, schools and much more. We attended 4 local Rotary Club meetings including two with DG Tim’s official club visits and a breakfast meeting.
I heartily approve the backstage area at the MAC including my Stage manager’s desk. Front of House is excellent too. I am delighted to be part of the Conference Committee.
A Stage Manager's dream! The Mighty Murray!
I have received great reports from last Monday’s Hat Day. We had some worthy prize recipients and I am told that Colin Fraser’s was great. A colourful bag he and Sally threw on him apparently.
Colin Fraser David Hogan Ron Malcolm
A colourful, but motley crew supporting mental health!
I am also told that Bryn Williams once again gave an enlightening speech, a very practical and informative guide to temporary and persistent mental health disorders, backed up with startling and alarming statistics of prevalence, with an outline of the three levels of disorder and associated treatments. Bryn also discussed lack of care facilities and difficulties faced by care givers through lack of funding, resources and people. An interesting and thought provoking night.
On Monday next we have a regular board meeting at 4pm, followed by a Board meeting with the District Governor, Tim Klar at 5pm.
DG Tim and Bronwyn Klar
At 6.30pm we have regular our meeting where I would love to see as many as possible to welcome and support our District Governor and Bronwyn. I have seen his presentation and know you will all find it clear, concise and easy to listen to. Let us have a great roll up for this special occasion.
There is never a dull moment and we have a wine bottling on this Sunday 20th October, we are supporting the End Polio Now campaign's Ride Like a Girl Movie Night and supper at Mount Barker Cinema on October 25th and the Callington show on Sunday October 27th where will will handle admission at the gates. To cover all the shifts, hopefully many of you will be able to take on more than one. If you have a friend or partner who you could rope in, that, too, would be great!
Make sure you check out all the coming events on this newsletter and stay excited and enthusiastic for our wonderful club.
Yours in Rotary
