Yet again there is much to report this week. Settle back and enjoy a review of a very busy week!
Our Community Grants in Action!
Last Monday's meeting saw three of our Community Grant recipients show us what they have been able to achieve with their grant money. Bernadette Reading and Geoff Keynes from The Hut outlined the benefits of the new planer they had purchased for the Community Shed and the work bench they are in the process of renovating.
We saw a short video showcasing the benefits gained by participating in community shed programs of which there are four in the Adelaide Hills Council area. Many friendships are made and useful community projects are completed.
Margie Sarre showed us the overall design project that has been developed for the grounds of Uraidla Primary School - a plan that will take a number of years to complete.
Our grant money has been used to purchase a mud kitchen for the water play area. We look forward to a tour of the school when more of the plan is completed.
Peter Weddell regaled us with the fascinating history of the Adelaide Hills Social Club, of which he has been a member for 51 years and is currently President. More impressive it was to learn that he served for 41 years as Treasurer, only the THIRD Treasurer since the founding of the club in 1894!
Remarkably, it still costs just 50 cents to join the Adelaide Hills Social Club! Again, our grant money was very gratefully received and was used to improve a parking area that was subject to serious drainage issues especially after heavy rain.
Afterwards Pauline articulated the prevailing sentiment among members that our grants have been put to good use and have made a difference to many in the community.
Movie Night
On Friday, 71 people attended our movie night at the Wallis Theatre and by all accounts, all thoroughly enjoyed the movie and each other's company. Just over $350 will be made from this fundraising event and it will be combined with the money raised at our recent Hat Night and given to Australian Rotary Health's Hats Off for Mental Health program.
Thank you all for supporting the club and rallying such a great crowd.
Wine Bottling
On Sunday, Colin got the old gang together again to bottle the latest quality vintage. All had a smashing time although no bottles were broken and no one was the worse for wear afterwards.
There is still time to order your wine!
Sculpture Exhibition and Raffle Ticket Sales
Dan and Tim survived the cold and wet to promote the Sculpture Exhibition and to sell raffle tickets at the Stirling Market on Sunday. Although ticket sales were disappointing, no one attending the Market could miss our signs promoting the exhibition in our prime locations!
Bickles Bonfire Night
Our traditional social event at Bickles Road is now only a couple of weeks away!
Dick and Liz are already planning for a COVID SAFE event at their home on Monday, 9 November, so make sure to mark your calendars NOW!
Pre dinner nibbles are from 6:00pm, dinner will be served from 6:30pm with a bonfire to follow at dusk.
We can all help out by bringing a salad or dessert for 6 people (please confirm what you will contribute with Liz) Chairs and tables will be provided but BYOG/soft drinks AND your own glasses.
Please confirm your attendance in the usual way (and that of your guest) along with contact phone numbers for COVID-19 contact tracing. If you have any food sensitivities, please ring Liz on 0400 117 537 to discuss.
The cost is a nominal $10.00 and that even includes a raffle ticket. Pretty good value!
