Robert Koehne will introduce Malcolm Horton who's talk is entitled “Trans-Mongolian Railway and More. A 9,000 km Train Ride” At the age of 28 Malcolm went overseas for the first time in his life. He and his family headed to the Middle East to work and live for five years. During that time, each year he and the family travelled for six weeks exploring Europe, United States of America and Asia. However, it wasn’t until he returned to Adelaide that he was able to tick two of his big bucket items off his travel list. He went solo to the Antarctic in 2004 and he and his wife Jane travelled on the Trans Mongolian Railway in 2007. A journey of 9,000kms from Xian in China to St Petersburg in Russia. Malcolm tonight is going to talk about train travel through three large countries – China, Mongolia and Russia, including Siberia. Jane has written a HAIKU "Travelling on trains Through vast lands and its people The Trans railway line" |

Meet Linus Faustin who will speak on the topic of "What's next for the former street orphan?" Orphaned at age six and living on the streets of Dar es Salaam for two years, Linus was admitted to an orphanage at the age of eight. Given the opportunity to go to school, he worked hard and completed high school in Tanzania before relocating to Australia for university. Through the financial support of the Rotary Club of Taree on Manning. in 2017 he was named NSW International Student of the Year. Linus completed his first degree at the University of Technology Sydney while Vice President of the UTS Student Union and then went on to complete his Masters in Construction at Bond University. He has since travelled extensively to promote Human Rights for children, including to the UN in New York, and for youth leadership activities to India, China, North Korea, Thailand, Rwanda and Australia. Linus is very passionate about politics and social justice. His immediate aim is to pursue a successful career in the construction industry here in Australia but, in time, to seek a political role in Tasmania. As one of the very few Tanzanian diasporas to have spoken openly against the brutal Tanzanian regime under the late dictator, Magufuli, he supports the opposition to the new government seeking a new constitution and the creation of strong institutions and press freedom. |
